Playforce transforms children’s playtime with Kewell Converters’ dynamic foam solutions
Creating 3D foam shapes for the leisure industry
Playforce, a leader in creating play environments for children in the leisure industry, faced the challenge of designing versatile and engaging play structures that aligned with school curriculums in the UK. Partnering with Kewell Converters, Playforce implemented the innovative modular system Poddely, using durable and vibrant 3D foam shapes for the leisure industry. This collaboration resulted in a significant enhancement to imaginative play, seamlessly integrating with educational frameworks and providing a sustainable, safe environment for children through the innovative use of foam.
Introduction
Playforce has been supplying creative play environments throughout the UK for over 15 years. Based in Melksham, Wiltshire, Playforce has leveraged Kewell Converters’ expertise in foam products and 3D foam shapes to design interactive installations for schools, nurseries, and playgroups.
The problem
Despite Playforce’s success, they faced a challenge common to many educational play providers—developing play structures that remained both engaging and adaptable while meeting the diverse demands of the curriculum. Recognising the need for a solution that would allow children to explore creativity safely and with versatility, Playforce turned to Kewell Converters.
The solution
In collaboration with education practitioners, designers, and, most crucially, the children themselves, Playforce developed Poddely, an innovative modular system. Kewell Converters played a pivotal role in this development by supplying the foam components crafted from their high-performance, impact-absorbing materials. These foams, available in bright, eye-catching colours, not only enhance the visual appeal but also ensure durability and safety.
Poddely’s design allows for the creation of cubes, prisms, and flat surfaces through interlocking tiles, providing endless possibilities for imaginative play. The foam used is weather-resistant and retains its structural integrity, making it ideal for both indoor and outdoor environments.
Results
The introduction of Poddely revolutionised Playforce’s offerings. Children now have the freedom to transform the modular foam structures into castles, spacecraft, pirate ships, or fairy palaces, limited only by their imagination. This adaptability not only enhances playtime but also aligns perfectly with the Early Years, KS1, and KS2 curriculum, making it an invaluable educational asset.
Our foam components have proven to be exceptional in their performance, offering optimal cushioning and impact absorption, which are critical for safe play. The versatility of the foam, with its ability to laminate with various materials and adhere to diverse surfaces, sets it apart in the market. The strategic use of colour further boosts engagement, encouraging learning and playful behaviour among children.
